Plasma Technology

The plasma technology is based on the concept of the electrons and their movement in the electric field. Plasma is the fourth state of matter and consists of electrons and ions moving freely. Under normal conditions it recombines to form the neutral gas. Once in electric or magnetic field it becomes accelerated. It can be thus controlled by varying the electric and the magnetic field used to accelerate it. And this property of plasma is used in varied fields.

The plasma technology is widely used in the electronic industry, textiles, manufacturing, medical researches and technology, optical technology and many such fields which require quality production which are sustainable and environment friendly as well.

The technology is finding its wide application in the consumer goods and televisions are one of them. The televisions have moved from the Cathode Ray Tube Technology to Plasma Technology. In cathode ray technology there is a glass tube in which the ray of electrons move which excite the phosphorous atoms. This series of events result in the formation of the image on the screen.

In plasma television is present the xenon and neon gases between two glass plates. There is address electrode and the display electrode. The display electrodes are arranged horizontally and address electrodes are arranged vertically. In between these electrodes are present tiny cells of having xenon and neon gases. The charging of the electrodes result in the flow of the electric current result in the formation of charged particles which make the gases in the cell to release ultraviolet photons. The photons interact with the phosphorous and this result in the emission of the colored light and the formation of the image on the screen.

The plasma television offer wide range of benefits over the traditional televisions with cathode ray technology. Most common is that they are bulky and require a large storage space. While the plasma television are convenient with regard to the storage and handling, they are also non bulky, sleek and can be placed anywhere. Available in varying sizes according to the use. The plasma lamps are also commonly used now.

The technology is used in the computer industry in the chips etching. In the textile industry it is used for the surface finishing of the material. It is also used in the manufacturing industry and in the production of high quality tools.

The technology is environment friendly and its full potential still remains to be tapped.
