How to Avoid the Overuse of Technology

The benefits of technology are immense. It has made our work simpler, our business more competent, more number of customers, expanding social network and many more. We are getting more and more dependent on the technology. And with this we are thus overusing it. Take for example a very basic thing mobile that we are using. The mobile no doubt has given us connectivity, our ability to connect with our family from any place and at any time, pay our bills through mobiles, and performing varied operations too many to list in this article. But on the other hand we are getting incompetent day by day. If we have to call our mom we just search the phonebook. We can't remember few digits.

This is a small example. Take another one. Imagine summing up or checking the retail bill. How many of us are able to cross check the bill comfortably without using a calculator. This is also true for the person making the bill on the retail counter. They are just dependent on the software calculating the amount of the grocery that we purchase. Remove it and there is a chaotic situation in the shop. These are small examples of how much we are getting dependent on the technology and loosing our ability to think.

The hacking of the accounts and cyber crimes are other types of technological over use. We here every second day about the credit card of a person being used by someone else, hacking of the accounts. These are some examples of the misuse of the technology that was developed for some betterment.

Next take the nuclear technology. Today it is used immensely for the development of the nuclear missiles. This is posing threats to the nations which are not competent enough on this front. Besides this the whole lot of funds is being drained to equip with the latest nuclear weapons. These funds could have been better utilized for any other developmental purpose beneficial for the country.

The ways to prevent the overuse of technology are few and just revolve around keeping a better check on all the activities, acting with caution, and laying policies and laws which could restrict the use of technology for the destructive activities. The rules and policies should be framed so that the technology use can be defined in a better way and the hacking crimes can be prevented. Besides the government should also take measures and generate awareness among other nations so that the nuclear power can be used for constructive purposes.

And for the individuals like us, well, use the technology but to the extent that it benefits you and not make you a slave.
